The holiday report (2012)

Well, I'm going to try something new for my blog. Introducing the first holiday report (of what will hopefully be many more to come)!

For starters, the Mayan apocalypse is a no-go. If you were expecting it to show up, sorry. At least this means you have more of my books to look forward to.

Secondly, I can now safely say that Magic Trickery is available with every major e-book retailer except Barnes & Noble. I do not know why they are being so slow, and I will look into it if it's not up before 2013 rolls around. Even so, though, Nook owners are still free to purchase a copy from Smashwords, so don't feel left out!

Third, I must apologize for misinformation, as it looks like the Amazon release/price change of The End: Visions of Apocalypse is going to be delayed. I wish I could claim blame for this one, but the whole matter is out of my hands. It probably won't happen until January, assuming it still does. I will keep you updated as best I can.

Fourth. "Gangnam Style". One billion views on YouTube. All viral videos and jokes prior to this were just the warmup. That is all.

Fifth, I'd like to thank everyone for an incredible year. Between the anthology and getting my next novel out there, it's looking better and better, both for you and for me.

Life, as always, is fantastic, yes? See you on the other side.

The End (of my rhyming career)

Two posts in three days? How does he do it?

Well, we could all use a little cheering up after my last somber post, so I'll just write the rest of this post in rhyme.

So as I said, we need a bit of cheer
So hold your applause...The End is here!
Now available through Smashwords today
Just click this link to get your copy, hooray!

It took a good while to write, that much is true
But now it's available, for me and you!
With stories by Michael Sullivan and Tristis Ward,
And Hugh Howey too, you won't be bored!

In fact...okay, I'll stop. It's been years since I tried writing poetry, and I'm clearly out of practice.

So, yeah, the anthology is out there. Keep in mind it's free for now, but after the 21st it won't be. That's not bad news though. Why? Because the proceeds will be donated to charity, most likely to the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that I talked about in my last post. So yeah, it's for a very good cause.

Regardless of when you get it, I hope you enjoy the anthology!

(And for those of you waiting for more information on my latest book being available, I'll have it out soon. Hang in there!)

Twenty empty stockings

Where do I begin.

This is supposed to be a happy time of year. Christmas is coming, the year of 2012 is wrapping up, there's no Mayan apocalypse, and I released a new book. All in all, good news, right?

...and then someone just has to kill his mother, go to to the elementary school where she taught, and shoot up the place. Twenty-eight people are dead in total, counting the shooter. Twenty of them were children, students at the school.

I do not claim to know why the guy did what he did. For all the insight that I try to bring into my characters, there are still acts of human cruelty that elude any attempts by me to rationalize them. Acts like what happened this morning.

Perhaps, in time, the world will be a better place. I'd like to think that, in my own small way, my work as a writer will someday contribute to that. After all, a world where more people take the time to enjoy e-books and other novels like mine...how could that be a bad thing?

But for now, this is the world we live in. For the families of those children, and the other dead people, there will be no "happy holidays".

Instead, there will be twenty empty stockings, not hung by the chimney with care, and probably not a lot of hope either.

The big reveal, at long last

Okay, I lied a little. That last art was only a teaser image. Now, the truth can be revealed at last.

Introducing Magic Trickery, the first (of what I hope to be many) of my new Thadrick Clant series of fantasy mystery novels!

The novels should be hitting e-book stores within the next few weeks, and I really look forward to having people read it. It was quite an effort, and I'm really pleased with the result. I hope you all are too.

But - in the words of the late great Billy Mays - wait, there's more!

The End anthology is also in the final stages of editing! Special thanks to Nila White for helping put this together (and putting up with my general silliness). It will soon be hitting Smashwords as well. While I did not get a story into the anthology (poor me), I still get to put my personal touch (heh) on the thing.

So, as we enter the final month of 2012, all is indeed well. I'm going to try to relax a little for the remainder of the year (at least, when it comes to writing). 2013 awaits...and so does the sequel to Magic Trickery!

I hope you all enjoy it!
