So little time

I'm sure you all know the old saying. So much to do, and etc.

Well, these past two weeks have been just that. I've barely gotten in writing edgewise, with real life providing plenty of distractions left, right, and center. I kind of feel bad about it, since it means I'll have to put in extra time later to make up for it.

On the other hand, past experience tells me this sort of thing comes and goes in waves. So, if I'm fortunate, I'll have plenty of spare time to work on writing soon. That's good, because there's plenty for me to do. I'm just past the halfway point on my current novel, and I'm hoping to pick up the pace so I can have it out about the same time The End (that crazy anthology project I'm involved in, in case you forgot) comes out.

It's not exactly easy, striking a balance between my writing, my work, and my other interests. I will admit I may have let the latter two drive out the former. Yes, it wasn't at if I had no spare time whatsoever, I just didn't have the mojo, the motivation, to write much. Hard work does that to you.

It's a cautionary lesson, I guess. The old Buddhist creed about all things in moderation is a pretty good idea to consider following. At the very least, you should never get bored following it, heh.

Well, since I need to moderate my time I spend writing this blog...see you around.

Don't wreck it!

While I can't speak for anyone else, I am psyched for the new Disney movie Wreck-It Ralph.

As someone who grew up playing all kinds of video games, the whole thing feels like a love letter to the history of the industry, and to the games themselves. While it's a shame they couldn't get the Mario Bros. themselves (curse you Nintendo for being stingy), they have all kinds of other characters, from Chun-Li to Sonic the Hedgehog to Q-bert. Can't get much better than that.

Even the plot points are classic. I'm not going to spoil what I've learned so far, but it sounds too cool to be ignored. Again, it's a tribute to the years that thousands of gamers have put in, and I don't want to miss out on it for one second.

Now, I will concede there's a possibility Disney could mess this one up. They haven't had the greatest track record recently when it comes to their non-Pixar films.

However, I doubt that will happen. It's already obvious that they put a lot of time and effort alone into getting all the character rights they could, and that speaks volumes about the actual movie. If they do the same there...this will be truly epic.

Here's looking at the end of 2012 being remembered for one heck of a movie, and not for the Mayan apocalypse (which probably isn't happening anyway).

Happy 4th

Happy Fourth of July, everyone!

(What, expecting a longer blog post about the importance of this holiday to me? Too bad, because I'm too busy to write one. Heh.)
